BYOD (Bring your own device)

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Laptop Program:

St John’s Catholic College has integrated ICTs into the teaching and learning program. All students enrolling at the College are required to have a laptop as part of their learning materials.

From 2026, the College will no longer have a preferred BYOD partner. Families may purchase devices from any supplier, provided they meet the College’s minimum specifications listed below.

BYOD Recommended Minimum Specifications:
  • Windows 11

  • 8GB or 16GB (preferable) RAM

  • Wi-Fi

  • 12 inch or larger screen size

  • Good processor: Example: Intel Core i5 or Ryzen 5 or higher

  • 3-year warranty (including battery)

  • 256GB or higher (preferable) storage

  • Software – Microsoft Office and Adobe recommended Laptop PowerBank (highly encouraged to ensure power for a full school day)

This change ensures flexibility for families, protects them from possible disruption if NT Government policies change mid-year, and avoids locking parents into devices that may lose support from NT Schools.

Support & Access
  • Students will receive an NT Schools login with access to Microsoft Office (Education), Adobe Creative Cloud and other school provided applications via the Catholic Education Portal

  • Students can connect to the College Wi-Fi network (with some content restrictions) Families are responsible for device security (antivirus, parental controls, warranty)

  • When NT Schools support ends for unmanaged devices, the College can assist in converting student laptops back to standard, independent devices for ongoing use
