Boarding Residences

Just as the pastoral care of each student is paramount in the school, this is also the case in our boarding residences. As St John’s Catholic College is a multicultural community, a spirit of respect, tolerance and understanding for other people and their culture is promoted. Care is taken to employ boarding staff who are sensitive and have an awareness of the cultural differences of the students. Houseparents help to provide a safe, happy and healthy environment.

Upon arrival in Darwin the students are met and welcomed at the airport by the International Student Coordinator and the Boarding Supervisors. The students are oriented to their boarding and school surroundings. Activities are organised for the students both after school and weekends.

Evening tutoring and after school supervised study times are provided from Monday to Thursday.

When students leave the boarding house they must notify the Boarding Supervisor and sign out. Upon their return they must report back to the Boarding Supervisor. Drugs and alcohol are strictly forbidden at the College and the boarding facilities.

Each semester the Head of Boarding provides a report on each student as part of the student’s academic report. This report is sent to the parent/guardian to inform the parent/guardian of the student’s academic progress, as well as his/her personal growth and development in boarding life.
